I will be offering you the opportunity of leaving the city to immerse ourselves in nature and the cottage allotments of Stockholm city. The place is a 15 minutes trip by subway from Stockholm Central Station. First, we will be exploring the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Skogskyrkogården", where I will explain the cultural significance of this gorgeous "Woodland Cemetary". From the mediation hill, to the paths in the forest of the UNESCO Site, we will then walk to our second location close by, the "kolonistugor". There I will show you these idyllic, colourful, tiny cottages on allotments where the Swedes plant their berries, flowers and spend their summer days. In these hidden clusters of cottages, you can experience the essence of the Swedish culture and enjoy the peculiarities of these places, which are not usually explored by tourists.
Hello friends! My name is Marco and I am a Stockholm enthusiast! For the past ten years I have studied, read, explored and lived in the capital of this remarkable country. I am originally Italian and have lived over a decade of my life in the USA where 32 years ago I met the Swedish woman that became my wife. In California and in Italy I used to guide groups of tourists from all over the world, and here too, I never miss out on the opportunity of showing tourists, locals and friends hidden gems of the city with its interesting facts and stories. My positive, enthusiastic and inquisitive perspective offers you a new understanding of Stockholm and Swedish culture.
I live in the area and have explored and come to love these neighbourhoods. I believe a visit to Stockholm would not be complete without experiencing these two locations. We will walk along the pathways of the UNESCO Site and enjoy the cultural significance of the "kolonistugor" cottages that only locals are familiar with.
Please wear comfortable shoes and weather appropriate clothes! The walk will not be challenging. Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome as the paths are flat and easily accessible.
