What comes to your mind when you hear natural dye? The soft pastel colors? Need to wait for a long time to boil the plants? This "Shin-Manyozome" dyeing method is so different from what you imagine the natural dye would be. In this workshop, you can experience both the amazing dye method and some shibori technique! After meeting at Tanbaguchi station of JR line, we'll walk to the dye factory together. It's about 9-minute walk from the Tanbaguchi station. At the factory, we learn about "Shin-Manyozome" method and the materials we use. What you will dye is an organic cotton scarf which is super soft and proudly made in Japan. After learning the method, it’s time to dye! Choose the color from 18 beautiful colors which all comes from 100% natural pigments. You can also choose the shibori pattern from simple one to difficult one. In the process of dyeing, we use lots of water. If we use the chemical dye, it may cause the water pollution. In this workshop, however, we use 100% natural pigments. We don't use any organic solvent, either. We care very much about the soap as well. After the dyeing process, we wash the scarf with the olive oil soap and the underground water. That’s why this dying method is sustainable. The experienced craftsmen will teach you how to do shibori in an easy way which is super fun! It’s the perfect activity even for a family with small kids!
