You will create your own unique watercolor painting in Coolidge Park, the city’s most iconic public space. We will meet at the flagpole in Coolidge Park, which is in Chattanooga’s “hip to historical” Northshore area. The park is on the Tennessee River and from here we can see the Walnut Street Bridge - the world’s longest pedestrian bridge; the Tennessee Aquarium; Blue Boy, an enormous rhino pull-toy sculpture; Hunter Museum of American Art; the Coolidge Park Carousel; the Market Street Bridge; and much more. During a short tour of the park's highlights, you’ll learn about Chattanooga and we’ll take time to notice scenes -- from sweeping vistas to quirky details -- that you’d like to paint. You’ll learn a fun and simple watercolor sketching technique and then find a view that sparks your creativity and settle down to create a beautiful work of art! If you’re especially quick, you can paint more than one. We’ll add a beautiful holder made by a local craftsperson and your masterpiece will be ready for display.
I love Chattanooga and enjoy sharing its beautiful views and unique landmarks with visitors. It’s important to make space in my life for creativity and watercolor sketching is one of my favorite mediums. It’s fun, relaxing, and helps me appreciate the little details in an otherwise busy world. I especially enjoy watercolor sketching when I travel! I studied art and literature at Furman University and have been a partner in a design-focused digital agency for almost 20 years working with some of Chattanooga's most loved brands -- including Rock City, Clumpies, and Ruby Falls. I also come from a long line of artists and have spent my life loving color and pattern.
