During the tour you will discover everything in and around the 2nd arrondissement, one of the most vibrant and less known neighbourhoods of Paris. We will leave the big crowds behind us, but we will still be right in the middle of the city center and discover a more off the beaten track area of the city. The area in and around the 2nd arrondissement has an interesting history, beautiful monuments, small streets, one of the liveliest streets of Paris full of restaurants and terraces, several old covered passages dating back from the 19th century, the oldest patisserie of Paris and other hidden gems. We will pass by several nice boutiques and restaurants that may be of interest to you for the rest of your stay. Along the way, the guide will tell interesting anecdotes about everything from the history of the neighbourhood to what is going on in the neighbourhood today. I would be happy to customize the tour to your needs. Please let me know if you have specific requests, or if you would prefer a different time slot.
I am Marieke, from Holland and living in Paris in the 2nd arrondissement. I am passionate about culture, fashion, art and travelling. I lived and studied in different countries like Holland, England, France and Italy where I studied in fashion school. As a local in Paris, knowing the 2nd arrondissement and its history like no one else, I would love to show you my neighbourhood, it’s culture, the small streets, the lively areas, the hidden gems, the shops and restaurants. I speak Dutch, English and French. On the way I can give you tips about what’s going on in Paris, the restaurants, from classic bistros to the trendiest places in the city, where to shop from vintage till concept stores till the Parisian boutiques and what museum and monuments to visit. We will start the tour at the Opéra Garnier, visit old covered passages, Porte Saint Denis, the smallest street of Paris, the oldest patisserie of the city and we will finish the tour at the gardens of Palais Royal.
There is no need to bring anything special but if it rains I recommend to bring an umbrella or rain coat.
We will walk around 2,5 hours. We start on the pedestrian platform in front of the Opéra Garnier building at Place de l’Opéra. The tours ends at Place du Palais Royal.
