In this fun class, you will learn how to make four different mochi dishes! We will start class by hand-pounding glutinous sweet rice into authentic mochi. Next, you will enjoy a savory traditional Japanese mochi soup. Second, we will make a sweet version mochi: fresh mochi filled with sweet red bean and fresh strawberries! Third, we will make a pink rosewater mochi, followed by matcha mochi, for our fourth dish. We will end class by making green tea mochi ice cream! Sweet red bean paste, fresh strawberries (upon availability), and chocolate will be available to fill your mochi with. You will get to eat a lot of mochi, and best of all take home a box with lots of homemade mochi to share! *If you are vegan, you can bring vegan ice cream with you. Please let me know if you are vegan in advance so I can prepare the vegan soup. **All dishes are gluten-free! (*however, we use normal miso for the soup)
We are a mother-in-law daughter-in-law duo. I am half Japanese and my mother-in-law Eri is full Japanese, born and raised in Nigata Japan. We both have a love and passion for Japanese culture and cuisine especially when it comes to making mochi. For over 10 years we have been making this traditional dessert side by side, perfecting our craft for various celebrations and events. Mochi is an easy and delicious dessert to make and share, so our hope is to teach others to do the same in this fun filled class.

Our classes will be held in a social hall of a newly built modern church. It's a beautiful space with lots of natural light, high open ceilings and a cozy fireplace.
