We’ll drive across the Jura Mountain range into France to the regions of La Dombes and La Bresse, formerly a part of Burgundy. In these landscapes of countless ponds and lush meadows, sweetwater fish like carp and pike are reared, and the famous Poulet de Bresse (chicken) and Charolais (beef) are raised. This quality produce, as well as local fruit and vegetables, are then being sold at local markets. We visit perhaps the most beautiful of them to discover the ‘Savoir-Vivre’ of the French, their habits, their likes and their passions. The market hall was actually built in the 15th Century! After this visit, we lunch at a local Bressane restaurant and sample the produce we have seen for ourselves during the morning. They sure know how to prepare it well. After this culinary experience, the exceptional 16th Century Royal Monastery of Brou awaits us for a visit and tour of its splendid Gothic architecture and exceptionally beautiful interior. We leave early in the morning (+/- 8:30 am) and return to Geneva late in the afternoon (+/- 18:00 hrs).
For many years, I’ve organised excursions for friends to the less travelled regions in Europe which I had discovered while living in Vienna, The Hague, Brussels and now in Geneva. I have discovered and inspected all activities, markets, restaurants, and local experiences in person; I can guarantee we are welcome as friends; I happily share my experience in organising travel and opening doors. My Experience is offered in English, French, German, Italian and Dutch
I show you ‘my’ France and its people and I organise our lunch. Menus in the area are priced at € 20 - € 40. Of course, I…
I guide and accompany you in your own car. Alternatively, we hire a chauffeur driven car.
From Geneva, it takes us about 1.5 hours to reach La Dombes where we visit the authentic farmers market - on Saturdays held in a 15th Century market hall. In December, it is THE occasion for food shopping for Christmas. For our très French luncheon we proceed to Bourg en Bresse, followed by a tour of 16th Century Brou Royal Monastery and a slow return to Geneva in late afternoon.
I offer a day of interesting discoveries ‘off the beaten track’, a well-paced programme, and I am knowledgeable on small things that may matter a lot when needed: a pharmacy, a bathroom, a doctor, a bench to rest …
