Pilar: We will be delighted to host you at my home in the centre of Madrid. The experience begins with some wine, beer, soft drinks and a little typical Spanish appetizer. Afterwards, we will all cook two typical Spanish dishes, Spanish omelette and paella, and we will finish the experience with a dessert. While the group cooks, we'll explain to you about the dishes, their history and several interesting anecdotes. You will participate in the conversation and cook the recipes. I come from a family with a tradition of cooking and the recipes have been passed down through the generations. Since I was a little girl, I have helped in the kitchen and even though I studied law, cooking has allowed me to express my most creative side. I believe that cuisine is an art-from, and whilst reading, which is my other passion, I have discovered many of the secrets of Spanish traditional cuisine that I look forward to sharing with you. Lola: I will be there to translate Pilar's anecdotes, stories and explanations as she cooks for you. I'll do my best to make sure you enjoy your time, learn subtleties about the recipes and answer any questions you may have. By the way, Pilar's home is stunning; filled with beautiful artworks, and it was recently featured in one of Spain's leading interior design magazines!
Hi, we are Pilar and Lola. Pilar: I'm from Madrid and I have been cooking my whole life for family and friends. I am passionate about cooking and books, and this experience joins both of them. For many years I have cooked for my international friends and have explained to them the history of the dishes. They have always been delighted, encouraging me to host this experience in my wonderful home that has recently been published in an interior design site as one of the most beautiful houses in Madrid. Lola is the niece of one of my best friends and will be translating the experience. Lola: Hola! I'm a Spanish New Yorker currently living in Madrid and making theatre. I love food, cooking and most of all, meeting new people. I will be Pilar's 'pinche' (cooking assistant) and translator for your experience.
A really tasty non-touristy paella, which is specifically a Valencian dish and is easier for you to cook back home.
You will drink a super tasty Spanish wine, as well as beer and soft drinks.
The whole experience is held in my dining room around a big wooden table because we Spaniards always gather around tables for our meals. You will enjoy drinking, cooking and learning a lot. And of course eating some wonderful, traditional Spanish dishes: paella and Spanish omelette.
