Join me on my favourite 10km hike in the Siebengebirge - on challenging trails off the tourist highways! We will meet at Bonn Central Station to take a 30 minute train ride along the beautiful banks of the Rhine. We'll hop off near Bad Honnef for a short stroll through former wineries and half-timbered houses, and then start the hike uphill on steep trails through narrow valleys and along small creeks all the way to the top of Löwenburg. Here we'll visit the castle ruins, have a lunch break and enjoy the view south towards the UNESCO world heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. You can use the bathroom and refill water bottles at a restaurant which we'll pass on our way down. During the second half of the hike, we will walk on small trails and ridges of relict volcanos and enjoy the view north, over the Siebengebirge and some historical sites, and the skyline of Bonn. If the weather is good, we can even spot the Cologne Cathedral. Before reaching our final destination in Rommersdorf, we can take a tour around a heritage-protected and beautifully landscaped forest cemetry where we can pay a visit to the grave of Germany's first chancellor, Konrad Adenauer. During the hike, I can happily guide you through the exciting landscape and cultural history of the Siebengebirge - volcanos, sagas, wine, forests, castles and modern history!
I am a nature-lover and a certified hiking, nature and landscape guide. I hold a Masters degree in Physical Geography so I have a passion for studying landscapes and the way they have been formed by nature and humans. Hiking is one of my favourite activities and I have walked some amazing trails in alpine and arctic regions. When I am home in Bonn, I also love exploring the less-trampled paths of the mountains nearby. I would be happy to take you on my favourite hike in the Siebengebirge and to share some knowledge regarding the fascinating volcanic and cultural history of this region!

We will mostly walk in the forest, on narrow trails in often uneven terrain. This route is much less travelled than other trails in the area, and usually only by locals. We'll visit the Löwenburg ruins - a former fortress from the Middle Ages. There are several viewpoints along the route, from where we can spot outcrops of volcanic lava and some historical sites, such as Drachenfels ruins and Petersberg, place of important agreements after WW II.
