I'm very excited to show you my neighborhood, Houston's historic Third Ward. We will begin at the oldest public park in the state of Texas and walk through the community's most important cultural and historical sites. The tour will culminate at a local soul food restaurant.

Lindsay got her BA and MA in history with an emphasis on African American history. She formerly worked as a docent/tour guide for Project Row Houses, one of the most important cultural sites in the historic Third Ward. In addition to this, she's curated tours for her 501(c)(3) non-profit organization The Re-Education Project. She's currently an adjunct professor of history at Houston Community College, a PhD candidate in Africology and African American Studies, and a lifelong resident of the Third Ward community.
This is the only walking tour of the community. You will learn about the history of the Third Ward as well as some of its notable residents. You will also visit some of the most important sites in the area including Emancipation Park, Project Row Houses, and Texas Southern University.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of a historic section of Houston that we had only minimally tried to explore in the past. Lindsay took us to places that we probably would not have been able to visit as effectively by ourselves, so we learned quite a bit. We also had the opportunity on the tour to meet several community leaders in the area that very few could have enabled without the connections of our guide. Our thanks to her for a very worthwhile tour.
