Diving around the Gili Islands is truly amazing!! The islands offer a stunning diversity of flora and fauna. We have the gentle giants like reef sharks, turtles, bumphead parrotfish, big schools of trevallies and snappers can be spotted year-round, as can the tiny critters and micro life like nudibranchs, seahorses, pygmy seahorses, pipefishes and mandarin fish. The dive sites are a maximum of 15 to 20 minutes away from Oceans5, the boat returns to the dive shop after each dive which makes it easy to plan a dive schedule. If you haven't dived before and always wondered what it’s like to breathe underwater you can join us for an Introductory Experience called PADI Discover Scuba Diving. This is a quick and easy introduction into what it takes to explore the underwater world. Although this is not a scuba certification course, you'll learn some of the steps that it takes to be a PADI certified diver. During this 1 day program, the dive instructor will teach you the basics of dive theory, you will go in the swimming pool to learn how to breathe and swim under water, you’ll practice a few skills in shallow water to prepare for your adventure. Then you will be ready to go diving in the ocean. Maximum depth will be 12 meters. To sign up for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience, you must be at least 10 years old. No prior experience with scuba diving is necessary.
My name is Sander Buis from the Netherlands. I am a PADI Course Director, DDI (Disabled Divers International) Instructor Trainer Examiner and Owner of Oceans5 Dive Resort a PADI 5 Star Career Development Centre located on the small Indonesian island of Gili Air. I arrived on the Gili Islands in 2005 searching for a place to settle, to relax and scuba dive. I never thought I would becoming a diving instructor, I had thought it a boring job and that they just counted tiles in the pool! But when I saw the students smiles and excitement in their eyes I knew this is what I wanted to do. I opened Oceans5 in 2010. Oceans5 is now a DDI Training Center and it is the only one of its kind in Indonesia. PADI awarded me for my efforts to support disabled divers by giving me the PADI Accessibility Award. Diving truly is for everyone at Oceans5!
