If you visit Oslo - world winter capital - during the snowy season (December to April), you need to try the most typical Norwegian experience: cross-country skiing! It is the best way to experience the winter landscape around Oslo and get close to the nature. And there is no better way to get close to the soul of Norway. Norwegians are crazy about our national sport. In the weekends you will see the endless tracks around Oslo filled with happy families and people of all ages - 2 to 100 years of age. Many visit one of the many forest cabins - where they serve refreshments, hot drinks and fresh bakery products and traditional dishes. Others bring their own food and drinks in a back-pack and sit down on the snow to enjoy a beautiful forest view. This tour is suited for people with some experience on skis and you should be prepared to work up a little sweat. I also offer an introductory tour for true beginners as a separate experience as well as an evening tour with headlamps - a truly unique experience! The experience can be made more playful for families or groups of kids. I can organize rental of ski boots, skis and poles if desirable. And I will teach you how to apply ski wax under the skis. I will be your guide to ensure the best cross-country experience.
I'm a former competitive skier competing at a high level in Norway, and have been an instructor for school classes for several years. I have a strong passion for cross-country skiing and think that everyone visiting Oslo in the snowy season should experience the fantastic feeling of making it to one of the many forest cabins around Oslo. Hence, I would like to enable more people to get this experience.
I will bring typical Norwegian drinks and snacks for tasting.
Ski wax. Rental boots, skis and poles can be provided on request.
We will take the metro from Majorstuen to the final stop at Frognerseteren. From here we will take the tour which takes about 2-3 hours including a stop, and return to Majorstuen by metro.
