I lead outings and retreats that explore the hidden pockets of north Florida. A day paddling one of the nearby spring-fed, cypress-lined rivers will offer rejuvenation and reconnection with nature. You will return to your daily routine refreshed and reenergized. Together we will (most likely) paddle the beautiful, spring-fed Wakulla River, known to early settlers as "mysterious waters". Manatee, Suwannee Cooter turtles, egrets, herons, osprey, alligators (from a safe distance, of course) are often spotted along the way. We will begin the experience with a paddling lesson and a safety talk to ensure that all paddlers are comfortable and confident in the kayaks. During this 4 hour excursion, we will bird watch, explore the river, sloughs, and creeks along the way, stop for photo opportunities and for breaks along the way; we may swim in the healing waters during the warmer months of the year (optional). Upon the conclusion of our trip, if needed, you will be shuttled back to your vehicle (unless we shuttled your vehicle to the take-out point prior to beginning the excursion).
Before moving away from north Florida, I owned and operated a successful outfitter business that specialized in paddling, hiking and backpacking excursions and retreats. As an ACA certified canoeing instructor, I taught many people to paddle. The enchanting spirit of the Wakulla river lured me back to its banks, where we now live. On a daily basis, I swim in and paddle the healing waters of this spring-fed river (A.K.A "Mysterious Waters"). What better way to enjoy it's beauty than to share this opportunity with others.
Included in the experience is the following: Kayaks, life vests, refreshments (a snack and/or a meal will be provided…
The Wakulla River is most likely the river that we will paddle for your first excursion. The nine miles of this scenic river flow from a first-magnitude freshwater spring, the second-largest freshwater spring in the world! our trip will begin three miles south of the spring-head. We will paddle downriver and explore this treasured stretch of river where mastodons once roamed.
