Many people think of watercolor as a pale or washed out medium, but used boldly watercolor can evoke a strong sense of depth and atmosphere! Spreading our materials out on my large dining room table we will use high quality paints and paper and learn specific techniques to create this stunning sea turtle. There is no drawing necessary! It is already drawn on watercolor paper. To begin we do a subtle underpainting that will add warmth and depth to our finished work. While this dries we will mix the intense colors that together help make this piece glow. We then learn brushwork tricks and do flat washes and wet on wet techniques to create the turtle's shell. To finish up we use a design approach that creates the illusion of depth in the water. Classes are relaxed and fun!
I'm a professional watercolorist as well as an Airbnb host, who has been teaching students of all ages for the past 15 years in Charlottesville. I have sold many original paintings as well as prints of my work. The Watercolor Guild of Charlottesville has asked me to give workshops for their members and I have designed and created a large acrylic mural for our local Whole Foods (with the help of many students). I love watercolor; it is a medium that shines by balancing control and spontaneity!
All paints, brushes, paper, painting subjects and specialty equipment will be supplied by me. All you need to do is show up!
This experience will take place in the dining room of my home. It is an open space that is filled with light and has a gorgeous sounding stereo system. Guests can also stay here as I'm an Airbnb host!
最多可有4位年满13周岁的参与者参加。 Guests should bring a positive attitude to this experience. Don't worry about mistakes, most of which can be fixed and some of which turn out to be the best part of my paintings!
You need no previous experience to enjoy this lesson. There is no drawing to do; the sea turtle has already been sketched out on watercolor paper and is waiting for you to paint it! This is a great way to try out watercolor if you've never done it or hone your skills if you already have experience.
