The Puget Sound area has an incredible setting of beautiful waters surrounded by soaring mountain ranges. It’s a dynamic setting with habitats changing all of the time and different types of birds and wildlife showing up for all seasons of the year. We’ll meet at your chosen location (all accessible via public transportation) and walk easy trails to enjoy the area’s prolific birds and wildlife. The focus will primarily involve birds, but marine mammals, other wildlife, and plant life may catch our attention as well. Alki Beach (described later in this experience heading), Lincoln Park to Vashon Island, and Vashon Island are currently available destinations. We’ll start each two or three hour walking tour with a discussion of the natural setting, what might be seen, and why at that time of year. I can tailor each experience to what you want to see whether it is a particular target species or to find as many species as possible in the time available. I will provide a checklist and bring a field guide for your reference. Trails will be easy and generally paved. Distances are one to three miles to provide ample time to enjoy each species we find. There are excellent opportunities for photographs. At the end, I will provide you with a written summary of what we saw.

I am a Master Birder with a lifetime interest in the natural world. I have guided professional tours for the past 15 years, helping people interested in identifying birds by sight, sound, and habitat. I lead Audubon field trips and perform surveys for wildlife groups. I am also very knowledgeable about local plants, animals, geology, and history. I have written extensively about Pacific Northwest birds, their habitats, and behaviors. As Editor of the Washington Ornithological Society journal, I am well-connected within the birding community. I maintain extensive records of sightings. As an author, citizen scientist, and naturalist, specializing in the greater Pacific Northwest, I look forward to sharing my expertise with you! I am experienced in leading programs for elementary school children and differently-abled people.
