The day begins at 8AM where we meet out front of Principe Pio Train Station. From there, we embark on an hour-long ride into the mountains. On our excursion, we pass through many small Spanish towns speckling the outskirts of Madrid Province as I talk you through some of our local history. The base of the sierra marks the beginning of our winding drive into the mountains, passing natural spring fountains, vantage points for photography, and various winter sporting resorts. The mountains provide a lush, green contrast to the bustling cityscape of Madrid. Finally, we reach Puerto de Cotos at the base of Peñalara, the highest peak in the sierra. We begin our scenic 3 hour hike, following along a tranquil river. Along the way, we encounter a number of hidden waterfalls. Two of the falls are quite large and host refreshingly cold, natural spring pools that are perfect for a quick dip during the warmer months. Upon the end of our hike, we will stop at a small restaurant, Venta Marcelino, to feast on a traditional Spanish lunch lasting roughly 1 hour. Lunch is not included in the cost, which provides you the option to sample your own choice of food, rather than having a set menu. After lunch, we begin our journey back to the city, concluding our day and leaving you with the rest of the evening to explore Madrid. For more pictures, find us on Instagram: @madridwaterfallhike

The drive to the mountains boasts multiple views of cities, historical landmarks, lakes, rivers, and mountains. Our arrival at Peñalara (the highest mountain peak in central Spain) marks the starting point of our hike. Then we trek down our route to two natural Spring waterfalls. Along the hike, I will be describing local plants and animals. Next we stop for a traditional Spanish lunch before heading back into the city.
