体验内容

Starting with the very basic ingredients, we’ll begin with making coconut oil. Have you opened a coconut before? We’ll grate the coconut by hand and make the oil traditionally, preparing it over a fire. While that’s happening we’ll harvest our starch, depending on what’s in season, and get to work making it into a flour we can use for tortillas. Which vegetables will we have? We’ll see what’s in the garden and forest fringes: perhaps there’s wild mushrooms, exotic roots or something delicious and familiar. Salad greens can be picked by hand along with some herbs and edible flowers. We’ll roast and grind some cacao for our drink, perhaps gather some fruit for a juice. Someone will fetch eggs from the ducks or chickens.
Our oil should be ready to use and we’ll hand make our tortillas and begin to cook our veggies and eggs. Will there be desert? Yes, of course! Finally we will sit down together to eat this feast prepared entirely from scratch. Oh, did we forget the salt and black pepper? We’ll need to make and harvest those too!

As modern, western people we have mostly lost touch with our food and where it comes from. In this experience I wish to share the fun and satisfaction we can experience when we really do feed ourselves. I hope you join me for some delicious, and well earned, lunch!
Other things to note
Closed toed shoes might be more comfortable in the garden and forest edges. It may be sunny so please think about sun screen. Likewise there may be bugs, please consider bringing repellent if you are sensitive to mosquitoes.

Puerto Viejo de Talamanca
We’ll be on our farm just outside the laid back community of Puerto Viejo. Our farm is mostly forest as we are an established agroforestry permaculture project. The place where we’ll make lunch is our garden and kitchen. The forest is very close by and gives great opportunity for foraging. We use our kitchen for chocolate making and workshops, it’s a comfortable and lovely place to enjoy good conversation and food.

    My husband and I had a wonderful time during Ancel’s experience. We learned awesome new things and had a wonderful time. I would recommend to everyone.

    This was a once in a lifetime experience. Angel has great knowledge and connection to the land and it’s plants. I really enjoyed making flours from scratch and learning about new herbs and spices. The food we made was super delicious and I’m looking forward to taking another one of her classes.

    We spent several hours with Ancel and Sam making interesting foods and chatting. It was a very pleasant way to spend the day.

    Such a wonderful experience, I learned several things I’ve always wondered about like how coconut oil is made, tried food I’ve never had, (the yucca starch tortillas were amazing!) and took away some skills I can use back home.

    Ancel and Sam did an amazing job walking us through the preparation of a full meal from scratch and informing us about their sustainable garden and the land in this region. We had eggs, flat bread, greens, salad, and cookies from veggies I'd never eaten before. We participated in almost all the steps even though Ancel and Sam made preparations the day before for things that would take longer than a few hours. Prepare to put in some work and note that this can get a little messy from making your own dough and working in an open air kitchen in the middle of the forest.

    Ancel is truly amazing. She is kind, knowledgeable, caring, interesting, I could go on and on. I enjoyed my experience with her so much. We went around the garden and harvested all the ingredients we used to make lunch. I learned all about the produce, the garden, the farm. Ancel was very personable, attentive, and really wanted to ensure I had a great experience. I would highly recommend doing any of her classes. Her passion is evident and she loves teaching. We made coconut oil from the coconut. I loved learning about all the different uses of the coconut. We harvested fresh ginger & lemongrass for delicious tea. It was overall a great experience. You will learn a lot, gain a more profound appreciation for this earth & its resources, and will eat a delicious, as fresh as it gets, meal. Lastly, I cannot say enough good things about Ancel. She is a gem. Thank you for a great experience.
