This experience is for people excited to participate in sailing a 36' yacht (though if you want to sit back and relax, you can do that, too). You'll learn the parts of a traditional sailboat, help hoist sails, handle the lines, and take the helm and sail the boat yourself! If you want to learn a few handy knots, just ask—we’re ready to teach you! Sailboat Rosie will pick you up on Lake Union near Fremont in the heart of Seattle. From there, you’ll pass by the Sleepless in Seattle house, other floating homes, mega-yachts, and Gasworks Park. We'll open 2 drawbridges and pass by the University of Washington campus and Husky Stadium on our way to Lake Washington. Once on the lake we'll hoist sails and everyone who wants to will have a chance to steer and sail the boat and get sailing questions answered by an experienced captain. On clear days, we see Mount Rainier, the Cascade Mountains and Mount Baker, eagles, and lots of seabirds. As a bonus, get lots of pictures taken to show your friends. Finally, we'll bring you back to our loading location which is an easy walk to Fremont, fun restaurants and public transit. There is free parking available at our loading location.
Hot tea and coffee
I've been living aboard sailboats since 2005 and am a licensed boat captain. I've sailed Puget Sound and the West Coast of Canada extensively. Sharing my boat and home and my sailing experience is one of my passions in life. For more photos, see instagram.com/redlipssinkships. We also have a longer sailing experience through the Ballard locks https://www.airbnb.com/experiences/165395
You'll see two historic drawbridges (they need to open for us to pass under), the Seattle skyline, the Space Needle, Gasworks Park, the Sleepless in Seattle house and numerous other floating homes, seaplanes taking off and landing, mega-yachts, and many classic boats using the lakes for recreation. This is a selfie-takers paradise. Plus you should come because sailing is a blast!
Bring warm outerwear/rain gear (it's usually chilly on the water and being cold +wet is no fun), sunscreen, and additional snacks & beverages if you want. A refrigerator is available. Sorry, no pets.
