This experience gives you a unique opportunity to paint orchids on the Orchid Isle with a third generation local professional artist in her island home. Guests will meet at Holukoa Café in the Artists' village of Holualoa From here they can get a snack if they wish & follow me up to Mauna Lea Manor: my home, which neighbors call the 'Painted Castle'. They will get to see some of my artwork on the way to the painting space. Depending on the weather, I have an outdoor painting space and an indoor studio. My property is in the lush Kona coffee country and we will be painting some of the orchid varieties that grow here on Hawai'i ; The Orchid Isle. I walk students step by step through how to paint the orchid from start to finish. Adding fun facts about our island and orchids through out the class. After 2.5 hours we will take some locally grown tea or award-winning Kona coffee from my family's plantation on the lanai to let our artwork dry. Everyone goes home with a beautiful, finished painting that should fit easily in their suitcase. It's the perfect relaxing afternoon for the artistic traveler. Guests are encouraged to explore the little Artist's village of Holualoa where they can see the work of many of the artists who live in our community & eat or shop before or after the class.
I have been a professional artist since I was 14 years old. I started doing drawings for a Maui fashion designer and creating embroidery designs for her linen line. I went to Art School at 16 in Santa Barbara, CA and then in Orvieto, Italy to study Fine Art eventually earning my BA in 2001. I have been an Art teacher for K-12 and taught adult Art classes since 2000, my students receiving as many awards as I have in local Art contests & shows. My artwork has been published in several local and international magazines. My murals & commercial work can be seen all over the island in public and private collections, with the 32 foot long "History of Kona Coffee" my most celebrated public work located at Daylight Mind Coffee Company's Kona location on the Waterfront. I am a 3rd generation artist with over 20 years experience teaching.
While we wait for our paintings to dry, we will take a coffee/tea break on the lanai.
I supply painting easel, paints, brushes, & tools for guests to use and I also supply surface material for painting that they…
