Join Jon and Carrieann, owners of Sideways Farm & Brewery, as we guide you through a tasting experience, while sharing our personal journey from the suburbs of Orlando to the rural farm and brewery life of North Carolina. We start our journey in Sideways Farm & Brewery’s tasting room with a sample of our farm fresh ale. We’ll share the beginnings of our love of hand crafting ales as we discuss practical tasting methods and beer styles. We will walk the farm with our second pour as we see regenerative agriculture in action. We’ll chat about the decision to create a farm brewery, what is working as we rehabilitate our farm (and tell stories of what has failed), and see future beer ingredients growing on the farm. With our third ale we will tour the brewery, sample some malts and smell some hops, and learn why all of our ales are naturally conditioned with local wildflower honey, a process we have developed over the last six years. Our last pour will be back in the tasting room where we will talk about our seasonal approach to brewing and how it is reminiscent of traditional farm breweries throughout history. We’ll bring it all together as we discuss our mission of returning beer to its agricultural roots.
Jon and Carrieann are co-owners of Sideways Farm & Brewery. Jon, our head brewer, has over 10 years of brewing experience, and currently specializes in recipe development, as most of our brews are seasonal, small batch, one-offs. Jon is proficient in using old world recipes and techniques, as well as modern brewing methods, blending, spontaneous fermentation, and aging. Carrieann is self-taught and passionate about methods of permaculture, sustainable farming, regenerative agriculture, and no-till agriculture. Our farm is in its fourth productive year, and we recently spoke at the 2019 Southeastern Regional Hops Conference, sharing our knowledge of not only hops, but several other specialty crops grown for our beer.
Throughout the 2 hour experience you will sample 4 different 4 ounce pours of our farm fresh ales.
Guests will leave with their souvenir tasting glass, chosen specifically to emphasize the aromas of beer and wine.
We will spend the entire tasting and tour on our 11 acre property, partially indoors in our brewing area and tasting room and outdoors walking around the farm area.
