Coffee is the second most consumed beverage in the world. Loved and addictive, it is also one of the most complex beverages.  In this workshop, we are going to take a journey from the seed to the cup - be ready to drink coffee! 

The workshop will start with an introduction to the History of Coffee. From the legendary goat that discovered coffee in Ethiopia to the first coffee shop, we will learn how coffee changed our society.

A cup of coffee is the result of 3 characters: the farmer, the roaster, and the barista. We will take a journey into the coffee chain.

We will start with a tasting flight of 3 different origins where I'll introduce the coffee tree, terroir, and farming practices. For the next tasting, we will brew and taste the same coffee processed in 2 different ways at the farm.
After this part, we will dive into the roasting process and I'll explain our roasting approach with a focus on green coffee quality, an exceptional terroir, and roast style.

The second part of the workshop will be focused on the barista's role. I will introduce 2 different brewing methods of home brewing and teach you how to make coffee like a pro by sharing with you all the explaining and science behind it.

Finally, we will end up with the last coffee, consumed in two different glasses to highlight the importance of the overall coffee experience and wrap up with a short Q&A session w

I remember the first coffee I brew at the age of 7 – a dark roasted Turkish coffee. Although this first sip gave me a bitter memory of coffee, sharing it with others added some sweetness to it.
Learned about coffee at the farm in Colombia, I started to work as a barista in Brazil. In the meantime, I obtain my master's degree in thermodynamics in France. I believe that we don’t know what we don’t know. In 2017, I launched a Specialty Coffee Tasting Workshop in London, UK to bring awareness and shed light on what, how, and why Specialty coffee is.

Like you, I am frustrated when my brew doesn't match what I had in the cafe. Hence, experience and sensory became my focus, with hours of SCA training and competitions. Moved to Houston, Texas in 2019, I launched Memli Coffee Lab and proposed an innovative approach to coffee roasting.

    We had an awesome time. We got to try different types of coffee while learning about their origins and the entire process. Mehmet is an expert on all things coffee and an excellent host. For anyone interested in coffee, this is a must do experience.

    My partner and I had a great time learning about and tasting great coffee from Mehmet! He did a great job of educating us about specialty coffee and giving helpful facts that would help us identify our favorite type of coffee at any cafe! The space was lovely and very clean and there were so many types of coffee for us to try--truly a great value!

    Great class! Mehmet is an excellent teacher, very easy going and personable making the whole experience very heart warming. He was explaining the coffee from the source to the cup thoroughly, well verse in the sensory subject, he taught how to understand tasting better.     Amazing experience! I would recommend this for anyone. My husband is a coffee fanatic and even though I don’t particularly love it, I had a wonderful time and actually found some new coffees that I do enjoy. We will definitely be returning so try some different seasonal coffees throughout the year.
