We will meet in my beautiful restored 1850s historic home which originally had a chicken coop on the property, like so many other homes of that time period. Guests will walk with me a few hundred feet to the chicken coop and I will explain the construction requirements and local predators that endanger the chickens. I will take the guests into the chicken coop and let them hand-feed the flock. Photo shoot! While hand feeding the chickens I will either take photos of the guests or allow them to take photos. During the photo shoot time guests can pet and hold a silkie chicken. Silkies are a rare breed of chicken that are extremely docile and have fluffy feathers that look like fur instead of feathers. If there are chicks being raised, the guests will be allowed to interact with them as well. During the photo shoot I will also describe the different breeds of chickens that I have. Eggs! Guests will finish the experience by collecting their own eggs to take home with them. My chickens lay a exciting variety of different colored eggs. Guests are usually thrilled to find a blue or green egg, or the tiny eggs laid by the silkie chicken. They will finish the experience by learning a few egg facts and take pictures of the eggs and nests.

I have been raising back yard chickens in my small city downtown back yard for 4 years. Before that, I raised chickens in the country. I have a degree in Biology and another in chemistry. I often invite my air BnB guests, school groups, and tourists who are exploring our historic neighborhood to see and interact with the chickens. Before chickens I worked with bats, helping to identify the habitats of endangered species. I have bred and hatched rare chickens. I have a variety of interesting chickens and always have a couple that can be held. This is a very unique experience. Being a super host I have had hundreds of people in my home and everyone that sees and interacts with the chickens and chicks is wowed at the experience. Most of them have never seen anything but a boring white chicken and do not realize the variety that exists.
If raining I will supply umbrellas. Bottled water will be provided A container or bag for the collected eggs will be…
We will meet in my beautifully restored 1850s home. It is in the national registry of historic homes. We will then walk to the chicken coop in the back yard. We will then enter the enclosed yard for the custom built chicken coop.
Your shoes might get dirty if you go into the coop. The chickens love the color red! If your red painted ties are showing the girls might peck at them. This doesn’t hurt, but can be annoying.
