- If you're looking for a foodie adventure and truly local experience this is it! Our team is 100% Belizean, born and raised in Belize! We know our food! We start off eating one of the most iconic Belizean foods, the one they even make t-shirts about! Then, we'll walk over to our go to stop for the closest you'll get to a fast food experience in Belize...a local food stand with our favorite ducunu, cotobrut and stewed fruits. It's a quick grab and go but preparing these foods is everything but fast. Ask Ms. Delia. After this stop, let's eat some Belizean ice cream or try a local popsicle at one of the island's longest standing local ice cream shops. Then, let's taste some rum creams handmade by our local rum cream makers. Enjoy a stop at Mama Ena's for her quintessential rice and beans with stewed chicken. She makes her own coconut milk fresh for every pot and you can taste the love in every bite! Let's walk it off as we head to a secret spice shop for a quick lesson in Belizean spices and foods. Just when you think the adventure is winding down, we've saved one of the bests for last...fyah haat salbutes and panades at our favorite fogon. And last but certainly not least, bite into handmade Belizean chocolate. Nothing beats this dessert of the maya gods. - City walk sampling Central American/Belizean foods. (Vegetarian/Vegan/Gluten-Free friendly) We will sample at least 6 - 8 Belizean favorite dishes, all by local vendors and you will learn the history and preparation techniques of each, as we enjoy. Our restaurant is the only one in town that features handmade classic Belizean Tamales so we discuss these, then each person gets a bottled water, and we venture out to a local taco stand, then walk a few blocks to an authentic tortilla factory to taste hot tortillas direct from the ovens. We continue around town to sample Belizean favorites of local foods, everything from street foods to Belizean Chocolate and Homemade Belizean Rum Creams. We can also show you how handmade tortillas are made for quesadillas and burritos and a Belizean favorite - Coconut Buns. We will make 5 or 6 additional stops before returning to the starting point. - You will join us at the downtown San Ignacio where we will be hearing the cultural music. We will have a one hour cultural dance session where you will get to learn to dance to the traditional Garifuna music also known to the locals as the "national music of Belize" which is called PUNTA. Punta came from the African word "Bunda" which means movement of your buttocks. :-) You will learn to move your feet and whine your waistline like the Belizeans do using the step by step choreography we will provide. By the end of the session you will be able to dance the traditional dance to any song of that genre of music. Your instructors will make it super easy and fun for you. - We'll pick you up at the Cayo Welcome Center and we walk over to the Wildfire Artzmosphere where you will be greeted with a glass of local Belizean wine. After which you will get indulge in 4 Belizean dishes filled with spices in every bite as we explore and enjoy foods from 4 of our major cultures within Belize. We start with a Creole delicacy and one of my childhood favorites, "Boil Up". Boil Up just as the name implies, is a number of boiled local root vegetables, eggs, pigtail and fish covered in a special coconut flavored tomato and onion sauce. From there we delve into the savory sensations of the Mestizo culture. You will get to indulge in the diverse corn based foods and enjoy Belizeans favorites; salbutes, garnaches and empanadas. Of course we will be having Mayan food as well and since we already had so much corn we're going to have some "Relleno de negro" which is a Mayan specialty also known to locals as "black dina" with coconut white rice. Last but definitely not the least, we discover the authentic flavors of the Garifuna culture where we get to eat some Darasa with coconut curried vegetables and stewed beef. Darasa can be considered the Garifuna version of the Belizean tamales. We end by making our own Belizean sweet treat called "Wangla".
